Social & Emotional Development
Respect for Self and Others
Early explorers learn how to express their thoughts, feelings, and needs in a way that is both honest and considerate of others. They also respect the feelings, belongings, personal space, and differences of other preschool children in a collaborative-play environment.
This includes age-appropriate discussion of consent, boundary setting, and conflict resolution skills
Mindfulness and Self-Discipline
Early explorers are encouraged to stay engaged in tasks, be present in the moment, and approach activities with focus and persistence in a self-directed learning environment that builds the confidence essential for future success.
Cognitive & Academic Foundations
Lifelong Learning
Early explorers are encouraged to express themselves daily through art, music, and play-acting to build their confidence and find their own voice. Using Montessori golden beads, children begin to explore numeracy and mathematics. Our program also includes weekly Spanish lessons, daily yoga for mindful movement, and visits from community experts who thoughtfully share their knowledge and experiences with the children.
Children expand their horizons through fieldtrips to the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Peterson Park District, the Evanston Firehouse, the Ecology Center, the Grove, Wagner Farm, and the Field, Shedd, and Peggy Notebaert Museums.
Lifelong Reading
Early Explorers learn that reading can be a gateway to exploration, knowledge, and personal growth. Reading helps answer questions children have about the world and discover new ideas, cultures, and perspectives that fosters imagination and empathy.
Children explore literacy at their own pace through storytelling, puppetry, drama, and library visits. Play with letters is an early way to explore writing.
Environmental & Community Engagement
The Evanston Early Explorers Garden Club visits nature museums, and provides outdoor hands-on activities that develop a child's sense of wonder and curiosity to care for and appreciate the natural the natural world by fostering a sense of connection to the environment based on sustainability, respect for the earth, and appreciation of the changing seasons.
